Message if you remove the air-bag equipped wheel and replace it with an aftermarket wheel. The airbags are mandated by the government and to disable or remove the bag puts you on the wrong end of the law.

Can a policeman pull you over and write a ticket for a non-airbag wheel? Probably not, but if you were in an accident and the insurance finds out the airbag was removed, you can count on the problems starting from that point.

I think the only way you can "legally" remove/disable the airbag is to get a waiver approved (through NHTSA if I recall correctly). If you search on the internet for the NHSTA website, you can probably find out all that you need to know.

In the end, it's ultimately your choice on what to do about changing steering wheels. I hope this post will provide some additional information to help you with that decision.

Good luck,

Dave N
